General Biography
Constantin-Adi Gavrilă is a full-time mediator, CEO and founder of ADR Center Romania. Since 2002 he helped people, communities, companies, and governments to resolve complex disputes located in more than 30 countries from all around the world.
His activity in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) was prestigious. He co-founded the managed the Craiova Mediation Center (CMC) established as a pilot program by the Romanian Ministry of Justice, was the vice-president of the first Romanian Mediation Council, founded and was the president of the National Federation of Romanian Mediation Centers, served as member and Co-Chair of the Independent Standards Commission convened by the International Mediation Institute (IMI), and is the President of the Group for the Independent Resolution of Disputes.
Adi has been consistently mediated hundreds of civil and commercial cases, both domestic and international, including multi-party, company - community cases, specific to the development context, for which he is working with accountability mechanisms of financial institutions like the Office of the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO), the independent recourse mechanism for IFC and MIGA, the private sector lending arms of the World Bank Group, the Project Complaint Mechanism (PCM) that has been established by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to assess and review complaints about Bank-financed projects, and with the Independent Redress Mechanism (IRM) established by the Green Climate Fund.
He has been responsible for the successful outcomes of complex capacity-building projects funded by international donors in Africa, Europe, Middle East, West and Central Asia. He played a significant role on ADR Center’s project to establish the Afghanistan Centre for Dispute Resolution (ACDR) in Kabul, was or has been engaged in projects aiming to develop mediation for different organizations or governments (Greece, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Turkey, Jamaica, Kyrgyzstan and many other countries).
In addition to his law degree, Adi is also an IT engineer, among the many projects he carried out, he designed and developed back in 2003 the first case management software (CMS) for Craiova Mediation Center.
He is the author and co-author of several mediation books, manuals, assessment reports, articles, and blogs in the areas of ADR & mediation. He is an experienced trainer of mediators and trainer-of-trainers and he often delivers ADR related presentations.
Among other awards, Mr. Gavrilă was honored with the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) International Development Committee’s 2009 Outstanding Leadership Award for outstanding contributions to international conflict resolution.
